Research & Development Center

Osberley operates its own R&D center focused on fermentation-derived feed additives and botanical-based formulations. The facility is designed to support three core activities: strain screening and optimization, pilot-scale fermentation, and analytical testing.

Strain Development

Our work begins with microbial strain selection. We maintain a collection of bacterial strains isolated from environments relevant to animal digestion. Each strain is evaluated for its ability to produce specific metabolites — organic acids, bacteriocins, and bioactive peptides — that have demonstrated relevance to gut health and feed efficiency. Strains that pass initial screening move to bench-scale fermentation trials.

Fermentation Process

The R&D center operates pilot fermenters ranging from 10 to 200 liters. This allows us to test process parameters — temperature, pH, aeration, and feed strategy — before scaling to production. We do not perform theoretical scale-up. Every process is validated at pilot scale with documented batch records.

Analytical Capabilities

In-house testing includes HPLC for organic acid profiling, spectrophotometry for peptide concentration estimates, and microbiological assays for viability and purity. Stability studies are conducted under simulated storage and transport conditions. All data is retained for reference across production batches.

Application Evaluation

We do not stop at chemical analysis. The center maintains small-scale feeding trial capabilities for preliminary efficacy assessment. This is not intended to replace on-farm trials but to filter formulations before they proceed to field testing.

Collaboration

Osberley collaborates with external laboratories for specialized testing — including amino acid sequencing and endotoxin analysis — that falls outside routine operations. We also accept research proposals from qualified institutions interested in exploring novel applications of our base materials.
